Guided Tours

Do you have a community organization, school group, sorority, church or family reunion whose members would enjoy a tour of the art exhibitions, mural, and more at the Gantt Center?

Guided tours provide an opportunity for our visitors to learn more about the rich history of Charlotte, African-American art and culture from museum professionals and teaching artists.

How to Schedule a Tour

To schedule a tour, complete the tour inquiry form. Once submitted, a museum associate will contact you and send an invoice with your scheduled tour confirmation. Tours are available for groups of 10 or more.

Tour Hours

Tours are available Monday through Saturday, 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. Please note, if your group arrives more than 15 minutes late for a tour, we may not be able to accommodate the group and your tour may be subject to a self-guided or abbreviated tour option.

Guided Tour + Visualizing Black Art Workshop
1 hour tour experience: 20 min tour of 1 exhibition + 40 min workshop
$15 per person

2 hour tour experience: 1 hour tour of all exhibitions + 1 hour workshop
$20 per person

Enjoy a docent-led tour which includes the history of the Gantt and a discussion of the artists and exhibitions on view. End your experience with a hands-on workshop led by a teaching artist. Your group will learn about an African American artist and each create their own artwork inspired by the artist's unique style.

1 hour experience: 20 min tour of 1 exhibition + 40 min workshop

Enjoy a docent-led tour which includes the history of the Gantt and a discussion of the artists and exhibitions on view. End your experience with a hands-on workshop led by a teaching artist. After completing a goal-setting exercise, each guest will create a self-portrait to reflect the life they envision leading.

School Tours

School tours are available to elementary, middle, high school and college students. Tours at the Gantt Center are designed to help students and teachers use observation and critical thinking skills to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical context of the artwork on display.

Gantt Center tour visits address the following Common Core and North Carolina Essential Standards:

Payment

Upon arrival, payment is due in full to begin the tour. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour's start time to make payment. You may also call to pay in advance or forward payment by check from your organization or school.

Parking

Parking is available in the Levine Center for the Arts parking garage, 101 W. Brooklyn Village Avenue, located across the street from the Gantt Center. Visitor parking is available on levels P1 and P2.

If you park in the Levine Center for the Arts parking garage, when you arrive at the Gantt, ask a visitor experience associate for a discounted parking pass.

Bus Parking

Bus parking is available at Central Parking located at 615 S. Tryon Street, (877) 717-0004 or from Preferred Parking at 705 W. 4th Street, (704) 375-6014. Please contact the parking companies directly should you have parking questions.

Lunch

The Gantt Center does not provide lunch facilities or a dinning space. There are a plethora of restaurants in the heart of Charlotte, along South Tryon Street. The Levine Center for the Arts, The Green and Uptown business district features several outdoor areas and atriums where groups can eat within walking distance.
