K-12 In School Programs & Enhanced Tour Offerings
Guided and self-guided tours are available to groups of 10 or more people. The Gantt Center requires one adult chaperone per 10 students. Groups of very young or special needs children must provide a smaller youth to chaperone ratio.
Guided tours must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance, are led by museum educators who will engage groups to support understanding of the cultural and historical context of the artwork, and last one hour.
Pricing
Standard guided tours are available for $7 per student for groups of 10 or more.
Enhanced guided tours are available for $11 per student for groups of 25 students and up. There is a cap of 45 students per session. Larger groups please contact us to create a staggered experience for your organization.

Self-guided school tours come with a museum overview at $5.00 per person for admission. Teachers are encouraged to visit prior to their scheduled tour in order to plan their self-guided tour.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Gantt Center does not offer lunch but there are a number of food options within walking distance of the Center as well as green spaces for picnics.
Standard Guided Tour
(Scavenger Hunt + Thematic Exercise available; All ages)
Experience the history of the Harvey B. Gantt Center and an introduction to Charlotte’s Black History with an in depth 45 to 60-minute guided tour of our facility and our current exhibitions. Students can also experience a deeper connection with the exhibits by completing a thematic exercise or a scavenger hunt.
Visualizing Black Art
(Guided Tour + Art Making Workshop; 2nd - 12th Grades)
Students will experience a 15-minute guided tour of one of our current exhibitions. A workshop focusing on one of the following noted Black Artists concludes the experience.

- Gordon Parks
Students will create art in the style of the artist their teacher has chosen. Students will be able to take their finished product with them at the conclusion of the workshop. Tours must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
Art Talk & Tour
(Guided Tour + Art Talk + Q&A; 6th - 12th Grades)
Students will experience a 30-minute guided tour of our current exhibitions followed by an art talk with regional artists and or art professionals. This tour option must be scheduled at least one month in advance.
Storybook Tour
(Guided Tour + Storytelling + Art Activity; Pre K – 1st Grade + Homeschools + Caregivers)
Students younger than Pre-K must be accompanied by a caregiver. Experience an abbreviated guided tour of one of our exhibitions. Following the tour students will be treated to interactive storytelling related to African-American Arts + Culture and an art related coloring activity.
Envision Me
(Guided Tour + Goal Setting Exercise + Artist Led Drawing Workshop; 3rd - 12th Grades)
Students will be led on a guided tour of one exhibition and then experience a 45-minute workshop centered around creating a personal vision. Led by a museum educator or teaching artist students will complete a goal setting exercise and use the information gained to create a self-portrait.
Activate The Image
(Guided Tour + Writing Activity + Performance; 3rd - 12th Grades)
Students will take a journey into the world of our exhibits and create a narrative for a piece of their choice. This workshop can also be expanded to include performances of the students’ written works.
